About

About Splints.

Dental Splints are removable items designed to protect the teeth & jaw joints against clenching & grinding of your teeth (Bruxism).

Bruxism is a common problem, affecting the majority of people at some time in their lives. For some people it can become habitual and start to damage the teeth (tooth wear) or jaw joints (TMJ).

FAQ's

Helpful answers to your questions.

The only way to tell for certain is to speak to your dentist during your check-up.

Everyone is different, and depending on the underlying issue, splints may last from 2-10 years.

Clean your splint in cold water, scrub with a firm bristled brush or toothbrush, and soak it in a retainer cleaning solution 2-3x weekly.

The natural ageing process of the plastic used can make splints turn yellow over time. This, combined with minerals and bacteria in the mouth can cause natural discolouration with age, but it does not necessarily mean it needs replacing. If you think your splint may need replacing, bring it with you to your routine check-up to let the dentist have a look.
