I want a dentist for my child

We provide free dental examinations up to the age of 12 for children of registered adults.

For only £5 per month your child can also have dental insurance to cover all their dental needs including private hygiene treatments and any fillings required (including white fillings).

At The Dentist we strongly believe in providing care for your whole family. We provide a very child friendly environment for treatment and all our staff are picked for being friendly, caring and gentle. Regular visits to the dentist are as important to children as adults and the key to better oral health as an adult.

What is a children’s check up at The Dentist?

At The Dentist we try to provide a relaxing and enjoyable experience for your children. On their first visit our aim is for them to have fun and get used to the environment. We will do everything we can to make the visit as easy as we can.

A child examination includes:

  • Tooth brushing advice.
  • Diet advice to help stop decay and for better overall health.
  • Advice on need for orthodontics and the right time to do so.
  • Referral to NHS or Private orthodontics as you wish.
  • Application of a fluoride varnish every 6 months to help strengthen teeth and prevent decay.
  • Gum checks.
  • Radiographs if needed.
  • Advice if fissure sealing is required – A protective coating for the teeth to help prevent decay.

Why do children need check ups?

  • The benefits in children as with adults is to prevent the need for treatment.
  • It helps to ensure problems are avoided or that they can be dealt with before they have a chance to cause problems.
  • To prevent fear of the dentist as an adult by early positive experiences.
  • To educate children of the need to look after oral health from a young age.

How often will my child need a check up?

  • Every 3-6 months depending on their oral health.
  • On your first visit to The Dentist we will advise the best interval for them.
  • If you have any problems between check ups there is no need to wait, we will always be happy to see you.

When should my child have their first visit to The Dentist?

  • We advise you bring your children as soon as their first tooth appears.
  • The earlier they start coming the more natural an experience it is for them.
  • Baby (deciduous teeth) usually start to come through from 3-6 months old.
  • By 2.5 years most toddlers have a full set of baby teeth.
  • The first baby teeth are lost for permanent ones from the age of 5 years onwards, with most children having all their adult teeth between the ages of 10-13 years.

Can I bring my children with me to appointments?

  • We are happy to see you in a family or on your own, whichever you feel more comfortable with. We understand it can be difficult to fit everything in, so it’s often easier to come as a family for your check ups.
  • Our extended opening hours should enable you to find an appointment that suits you if you would prefer to have treatment without the children.
  • If you would prefer to bring children with you whilst you have treatment, we have toys, crayons, baby walkers and seats to help you entertain them.
  • All our staff are hand picked to be gentle, caring and friendly. We will do everything we can to help you.
  • There is plenty of room in our reception area for buggies and a small childrens waiting area to keep them entertained.
